The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued a notification amending the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021, adding Screen Protectors for Smartphones as a new product category under the BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS).
New Product Category: Screen Protectors for Smartphones.
Applicable Standard: IS 19348:2025 (Glass Screen Protector – Specification)
Effective Date: Applicable from 1 April 2027
Although the implementation date is still ahead, manufacturers, importers, and brands should start reviewing their product range, supply chain, and testing requirements early. BIS testing, documentation and registration can take time, and early planning can help avoid last-minute compliance challenges.
