- BIS Marking and Transition to IS/IEC 62368-1
The revised FAQs address key requirements relating to BIS marking, component certification, existing inventory, and the transition to the updated safety standard.
- Standard Mark and labelling: Manufacturers should refer to the applicable BIS Conformity Assessment Regulations and implementation guidelines for marking and labelling requirements.
- Component certification: Clause 4.1.2 of IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 should be referred to when determining whether internationally certified components can be covered in the BIS test report.
- Existing inventory: Products shipped or held in inventory before the enforcement date must be exhausted or transitioned to the new standard.
- End products and accessories: Where a notebook, mobile phone, or other product is certified under IS/IEC 62368-1:2023, its adapters and accessories that fall under BIS requirements must also comply with the same standard, including during the concurrent-running period.
- Labelling extension: No extension will be granted for product labelling beyond the enforcement date.
What Should Manufacturers Do Next?
Manufacturers and importers should review the revised FAQs to determine how the clarifications affect their product classification, testing, certification, and labelling requirements.
Businesses preparing for the transition to IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 should also assess their existing inventory and applicable accessories to identify any compliance gaps.
