The Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) has issued an Office Memorandum dated 16 Jan 2026 regarding compliance with Essential Requirements (ERs) for the security of CCTV cameras under the CRO.  Key Highlights  No further relaxation –existing stock clearance period is nearing its end.  Extension permitted for sales of CCTV cameras manufactured or imported before 9 April

The Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) has issued an Office Memorandum dated 16 Jan 2026 regarding compliance with Essential Requirements (ERs) for the security of CCTV cameras under the CRO. 

Key Highlights 

  • No further relaxation –existing stock clearance period is nearing its end. 
  • Extension permitted for sales of CCTV cameras manufactured or imported before 9 April 2025 has now been withdrawn. 
  • Effective 1 April 2026only ER-certified CCTV cameras will be permitted for sale in India. 

What This Means 

ER compliance for CCTV cameras is mandatory for all manufacturers, importers, and related stakeholders to continue operations beyond March 2026.
