IS 18112 Implementation for TV Sets Extended to July 2026

The Government of India has updated the timeline for the implementing of IS 18112, an Indian Standard related to Digital Television Receivers used in television sets for the reception of digital satellite Free-To-Air (FTA) TV and radio signals.

Originally, through the IS 18112 implementation order issued on 26 April 2023, television sets were brought under the Compulsory Registration Order (CRO). This meant that, in addition to the existing safety requirements under IS 616, television sets would also be required to comply with IS 18112.

Subsequently, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) issued detailed guidelines outlining the compliance requirements for manufacturers and importers, including provisions for existing licenses, new applications, and model inclusions. These guidelines specified 26 January 2026 as the date from which compliance with IS 18112 would become mandatory.

However, on 22 January 2026, following industry representations, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued an official gazette notification announcing a further extension. The final implementation date for IS 18112 has now been extended to 26 July.

This extension provides manufacturers and importers with additional time to update their products and certifications. After 26 July 2026, television sets must comply with both IS 616 (Safety) and IS 18112 (Digital Television Receiver) to ensure smooth import and trade in India.
