On June 9, 2026, the Ministry of Textiles officially cancelled the Quality Control Order (QCO) for cotton bales with immediate effect. This means that the mandatory quality standards introduced under the 2023 order are no longer applicable.

The government made this decision in the public interest under the powers given by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Act, 2016.

However, any actions taken or violations that occurred before the cancellation will still be treated according to the old rules. The cancellation does not erase past responsibilities.

The notification also mentions the previous amendments made to the order between 2023 and 2025 and has been officially published in The Gazette of India, making the revocation legally effective and publicly available.
