The Government of Goa has introduced a Deposit Refund Scheme (DRS) for beverage containers used for liquor and liquor-based products sold within the state.
The scheme covers packaging made from glass, plastic, metal, and other specified materials, with the objective of improving collection, recycling, and responsible waste management.
If you are a Producer, Importer, or Brand Owner (PIBO) supplying these products to the Goa market, this regulation may apply to you regardless of where your business is located. The determining factor is where the product is sold, not where the company is registered.
Key dates to remember:
- 31 July 2026: Complete the required compliance.
- 1 September 2026: DRS compliance becomes mandatory for placing covered products in the Goa market.
