The Supreme Court of India has directed the Central Government to assign its powers to District Collectors across the country for a period of one year. 

District Collectors will now be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 in their respective districts 

This includes

  • Implement  

This initiative is expected to support better coordination and more effective implementation of solid waste management practices across India.
