The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has taken another significant step toward strengthening solid waste management across India by directing all eligible Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) to register on the Centralized Solid Waste Management (SWM) Portal. 

Key highlights:  

  • Every Bulk Waste Generator (BWG), including resorts and other eligible establishments, must register on CPCB’s centralized online portal.  
  • Urban and Rural Local Bodies have been directed to identify all resorts and eligible establishments falling under the BWG category and ensure their registration.
  • Action Taken Reports are due to CPCB by 30.07.2026.

This directive builds on the Supreme Court’s earlier orders, which had already pushed states and stakeholders – SPCBs/PCCs, District Magistrates, and Urban and Rural Local Bodies to accelerate implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
