
BIS Updates LED Module Standard; Compliance by July 2026
BIS has upgraded the LED module safety standard from IS 16103 (Part 1):2012 to IS 16103 (Part 1):2025 / IEC 62031:2018 through a notification dated 09 September 2025. The initial implementation deadline was 21 January 2026. Following industry feedback, BIS has now extended the compliance deadline to provide relaxation to manufacturers and importers.

Following industry feedback, BIS has now extended the compliance deadline to provide relaxation to manufacturers and importers.
New implementation deadline: 21 July 2026
After this date, only IS 16103 (Part 1):2025 will be accepted for BIS certification.
