The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued Amendment No. 1 to IS 4246:2025 – Domestic Gas Stove and Built-in Hob, for use with Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG).

The amendment introduces important changes that manufacturers and BIS licensees should take note of, particularly with respect to product requirements, testing, marking, and documentation.

Key changes include:
• New requirements for injector jets, including material and melting point
• Requirement to mark the jet size in L/h at STP on the jet
• New requirements for gas consumption testing where two or more jets are operated by one knob
• Provision for information cards to be provided in Braille
• Revised requirements for aluminium pans used for thermal efficiency testing
• Revision of the Scheme of Inspection and Testing (SIT) under the Product Manual

Implementation deadline: 28 December 2026

For existing BIS licensees:
Licensees are required to implement the amendment by 28 December 2026 and submit applicable evidence of conformity, including component test certificates, compliance with new marking requirements and applicable product test reports. Implementation will also be verified during the next surveillance visit.

For new applications:
Applications may be processed with or without the amendment during the transition period. However, processing without the amendment is permitted only up to 28 December 2026, subject to the applicable declaration/undertaking. Beyond 28 December 2026, no licence will be granted without considering the amendment.

Manufacturers and applicants covered under IS 4246:2025 should review the amendment at the earliest and assess the impact on their product design, testing, marking, documentation and certification requirements to ensure timely compliance.
