The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has extended the implementation date of IS 302 (Part 1): 2024 /IEC 60335-1:2020, which covers the safety of household and similar electrical appliances. This extension specifically applies to adapters for household and similar electrical appliances under the Compulsory Registration Order (CRO).
As a result, both standards—IS 302-1:2008 and IS 302 (Part 1): 2024—can be used together (concurrent running) until 23 February 2027.
This extension has been given to make the transition easier and to help manufacturers and other stakeholders adjust smoothly to the new safety requirements.
Key Highlights of the Extension
- Relief for Industry: Manufacturers of household electrical appliance adapters get extra time to shift to the 2024 standard without disruption.
- Time for Preparation: Manufacturers and testing laboratories now have more time to upgrade their infrastructure and align their processes with the new technical requirements of IS 302 (Part 1): 2024.
- No Other Changes: All other terms and conditions mentioned in the BIS circular dated 27 November 2024 remain the same.
Overall, this extension gives stakeholders additional time to align their products and operations with IS 302 (Part 1): 2024 / IEC 60335-1:2020 requirements.
