BIS Extends Compliance Timeline for LED Luminaire Products
In line with the revision of standards applicable to lighting products covered under the BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), the implementation of the revised standards has been extended. In this regard, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has announced an extension of the implementation timeline for certain LED luminaire products
In line with the revision of standards applicable to lighting products covered under the BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), the implementation of the revised standards has been extended.
In this regard, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has announced an extension of the implementation timeline for certain LED luminaire products covered under its earlier notification dated 10 February 2026, reference number: HQ-PUB013/1/2020-PUB-BIS (1420).
The mandatory implementation date has been revised from 02 August 2026 to 02 February 2027, providing manufacturers, importers, and other stakeholders with an additional six months to comply with the applicable BIS certification requirements.
The revised implementation timeline applies to the following product categories:
- Fixed General Purpose Luminaires
- Recessed Luminaires
- Street Lighting
- Floodlights
- Handlamps
- Lighting Chains
- Emergency Lighting
- Self-Ballasted LED Lamps
Stakeholders are advised to take note of the revised implementation date and ensure compliance within the extended timeline.
