BIS Certification Must for Power Semiconductor Converter
As we approach the final stretch of our series, today’s focus is on another critical category under the BIS Scheme X – Omnibus Technical Regulation (OTR): Power Semiconductor Converters.
These devices form the backbone of modern electrical and power systems, enabling energy conversion and control in industries, infrastructure, and renewable energy.
Scope of Regulation:
This regulation mandates BIS certification for all types of power semiconductor converters and their assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components. The scope includes:
- Diode rectifiers
- DC-DC converters
- DC-AC inverters
- AC-DC controlled rectifiers
- AC-AC voltage controllers
- Static switches
- Essential parts and sub-systems, such as control panels, semiconductor modules, and driver circuits, are also covered.
Applicable HSN Code:
850440
Compliance Deadline:
1st September 2026 – By this date, any business manufacturing, importing, or selling these products in India must have BIS certification to operate legally.
Important Note:
This order does not apply to any machinery or electrical equipment already covered under another Quality Control Order (QCO) issued by BIS.
This move highlights the government’s continued focus on ensuring safety, performance, and reliability in power conversion technologies, which are critical for sectors like renewable energy, automation, and industrial electronics.
